Yes, it is possible, SharePoint 2010 can be run on Windows 7 64Bit!! To install on Windows 7 you first need to download SharePoint Foundation from here. You then need to run this script in PowerShell and its done!

Betacorp Social is a new addition to Betacorp Technologies. Being unblocked almost everywhere Betacorp Social is a great way to chat with friends. In this post I will be showing you how to sign up for this amazing free service.

Firstly, visit Betacorp Technologies and create a free account by clicking 'Register' under the login box on the left hand side. A form will appear asking for your details. Enter your details and click 'Register'.

After clicking register you will be told that you have been sent an email. Go to your inbox and click the activation link in the email to activate your account. Once you have clicked the link you will be told that your account is now ready to use.

After you have done this you will be able to log into your account. Now that you are logged in you may notice a menu named 'Betacorp Social'. In this menu you will find the links to your new profile. Watch out for our next post on how to customize your profile.

iOS 4 is here, and its free! It works on all new iPhones and iPod touches, but multitasking is not supported on the 8gb version of the iPod touch. On my 8gb iPod touch it runs a lot faster and there are only a few visual changes, but there is the addition of folders. Many more features are avaliable if you install on an iPhone.

Here are some pictures of my 'new' Panasonic F10's. I got them for £20 from DvDoctor. There is one complete camera, with an 8X zoom lens and a Gen-Lock adaptor. There is also half a camera, with just the body, shoulder mount and viewfinder. These are currently being used in a talent show at school, but we are looking for a power supply, so if any of you have one, please email me.

Here are some pictures of some funny/dangerous errors I cam across whilst in flight sim today. The first two pictures are of a DC-10 with its thrust reverser deployed whilst in flight. The third is of an AI Cessna 172 with its elevators in the full up postition whilst maintaining level flight. The next one is a Piper Cub with the aileron control cable disconnected! The final picture is of an AI 737 taking off with the cargo doors open.

I have recently come across a Framework called IWebKit. IWebKit enables you to make native Ipod Touch and Iphone websites. There are many themes available and it is well worth using. I have downloaded X-plane trainer for the Ipod Touch and it is amazing! You control the plane by moving the Ipod and you have flaps and the throttle on screen. You have a cockpit view as well as many external views. It runs really well and does not lag at all.

Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2

The Visual Studio 2010 beta (VS2010) is a really good tool. You are given amazing templates for projects and a toolbox brimming with features. Having only used the Visual Basic 2008 express edition this is an amazing program! You can make anything from a SharePoint 2010 webpart (2010 only) to a Silverlight application. Here is a screenshot of the 'New project' dialog:

The toolbox has the same items as the 2008 express edition, but the components are improved.

If you want to try out exchange 2010, but dont have a server that can run it, head on over to Microsofts UcTrial. Here is the link: https://r2.uctrial.com/register.aspx. You get a 60 day free trial, where you get a email address and OWA 2010. Its is a really good trial, and you can incorporate it into your SharePoint portal.

Aero 'shake'

In Windows 7 there is a cool feature called Aero 'shake'. This cool gadget allows you to minimise all of the programs you are not using. You do this by holding on to the title bar with your mouse and gently shaking the windows. All of the inactive windows will then dissapear. This may not sound like a usefull tool, but it sure comes in handy!

Adding OWA into your SharePoint portal

Adding OWA into your portal is easy. Just create a new web part page, by going into site actions and looking under 'Web Pages' and create a page, calling it an appropriate name etc.

You should end up with a page looking like this:

Then click on 'Add a web part' and choose 'PageViewerWebPart' and press 'OK'

Click on the open the tool pane link and enter the link for your OWA. After doing this you should end up with OWA on your portal!

Outlook Web Access 2010

I have been playing with Exchange 2010 this afternoon, and I have added a the OWA web part into my SharePoint portal. OWA 2010 has a better GUI than Exchange 2007, but you can't change the themes, but thats only a minor issue. I am using a hosted trial of Exchange 2010, but after christmas, I hope to buy a server and install Exchange 2010 on it. As I am using a hosted trial, users of my portal have to login to OWA, but if I was hosting Exchange myself, that would not happen.

Hi,

I have recently been looking at Microsofts 2010 suite. I have downloaded Exchange 2010 and you need a dual core 64bit machine with 4gb ram! So I instantly deleted Exchange! SharePoint services 2010 needs the same spec machine to run, as well as Server 2008, so I am stuck with SharePoint services 3.0. Sharepoint designer 2010 only supports 2010 sites, so with my low spec server, I cant run any of these!

Hi,

I just thought I would share one of the best cookie recipies ever! Here it is:

Ingredients:

100g soft butter

100g light muscavado sugar

150g self raising flour

1 table spoon golden syrup

Smarties, chocolate buttons etc.

Recipe:

Mix the sugar and butter together into a thick paste . This may take some time
Add 1 table spoon of golden syrup
Sieve the flour into the bowl and add the Smarties or whatever your filling is
Stir until a dough is formed, adding no more than 4 tbsp of water
Roll the dough into small sized balls and placed on a greased baking tray
Place in a preheated oven for 5-15 minutes, until golden brown

I was just looking through some old disks, and I found some pictures of my first server. The server was a Compaq Proliant 6000 with 1gb ram and 5 4.2gb hard drives. I had it working when I was younger, but I didn't really know what to do with it, so it got binned, but I wish I had it now, as I have a use for it. But it was good value and fun, as it was £0.99 on eBay and it came with 4 UPS's.

The Office 2010 beta is out. This is just a quick review of what's new. To start, here is a list of programs you receive the pro version:

You get the same programs as Office 2007, but you also get SharePoint workspace. Please note that Visio was an extra download and SharePoint designer 2007 is not part of the 2010 suite. You also get a send a smile thing installed, asking you to feedback on your experiences, as it is beta software. If you dont have it click me for a download!

I have been using remote desktop to control my server. It is a great tool, as I don't have to have to have a mouse, keyboard and screen set up, or use a KVM. I have full control and it is really easy to set up.

Sorry for the lack of posts, but I have been creating my Sharepoint portal. Making one is easier than you think. All you need is a server (or an old pc). Installing SharePoint Services 3.0 was a bit tricky as Server 2003 r2 is a bit buggy, so a few patches had to made, but hey SharePoint services is free! Here is a screenshot of my portal in development:

Windows 7 will run on a low spec machine. One of my laptops with 640mb of ram runs Windows 7 ultimate very smoothly. Even though Windows say you need 1gb of ram, 512mb is plenty.

My new PC, server and laptop

I have just recieved a new PC, with 2gb of ram and a 200gb hard drive. It has 256mb of video ram and FSX and Windows 7 runs really well, compared to my old PC with 1gb of ram. I have switched back to my single screen, as the other screen was older and there was a considerable colour difference in the two screens, hurting my eyes. Here is a picture of my new 64x2 bit machine:

As my sister got my old PC for her birthday, I got her old one, which I have turned into a server. I have put Windows server 2003 on it, and I am in the process of making a sharepoint portal. I have a also put exchange server on it, but I am still working on setting it up. Unfortunately, I have had to network it using a wi-fi card, so the connection isn't ideal for a server, but hey, at least I have got a server! I have to admit, I don't really know what I am doing, so it i staking me a while to set up, but its fun and I am learning quite a bit in the process. I have only managed to set my Windows 7 laptop to log on to my network, but it is quite cool, as I can lock myself out! I have also configured remote desktop between my server and my laptop, so I can control them both from my PC on my desk. Here is a picture of my 'server':

I have also upgraded my laptop with 512mb of rm from Amazon and I have put Windows 7 ultimate on it. For the specs of my laptop, it runs really well. It is really usefull for doing homework on and for surfing the web, or watching a movie, as it has a built in dvd rw drive.

Windows 7 on netbooks?

Hi,

At our school we have replaced the old laptop trolley with 5 netbook trolleys. They each have 32 Samsung NC-10 netbooks in them. They used to run Vista, which I thought was a bit much for the netbook, as it is designed for XP. But they now have Windows 7 on them! It runs very well, but its a shame that the theme is the basic theme.

As we all know, Vista is rubbish. With its supid credentials manager, it damaged Microsoft. But the latest OS from Microsoft, Windows 7, is the best I have seen. I have the beta and it runs really smootly and is faster than XP!! It retains a lot of features from Vista, but, they are improved, making it an amazing OS! I would really like to get it when it comes out, as there is no way I am downgrading back to XP! It is a must get when it comes out later this month.

I now have a dual LCD setup for my PC!! I picked up the 15' LCD from the scout jumble sale today for £4.00! It looks a bit out of place next to my 19' widescreen, but its something that I have wanted for ages! I can now finally have FSX on two screens! More to come with pics soon! Just Flight 757 captain review

I got this add-on off of Amazon for a bargain price of £17.00. I quite lik this add-on, but having a slower computer, my frame rates take a hard hit. Lets quickly get the bad parts out of the way first. The only downside is that it eats the frame rates and mine drop from 30-35 to under 10! This can be helped by turning down the sliders, but it is still quite slow. Another little niggle is that when you open the door in the virtual galley, the door is painted in and AA livery, even if the plane is not an AA plane! But it is only minor! Just one more downside, which really lets this plane down, is the lack of a full virtal cabin.

On to the good side. As soon as you enter the plane it is evident how much effort has been put into making this plane. Almost everthing is animated. You can open the cokpit door, move the seats and open the windows e.t.c. If you want a full list of the animations, head over to the just flight website! Starting the aircraft is easy, once you become familiar with the aircrafts systems! On my first flight I had a had to start the engines using CTRL+E. I also went without aligning the I.R.S (As I didn't know what it was!) As I taxied out my frame rates were at about 5! But I didn't care! After setting the flaps to 15 and setting the trim, I took off. The 757 is a joy to fly!

After making a full auto landing at Heathrow, I taxied to parking and tried out the external animations. I selected all of the external animations and selected the cargo loaders. The cargo loaders are animated and place containers in the aircraft. The pitot and static covers sway in the wind, another nice little feature!

On to the systems, and the FMC is very easy to program! Its not a 'dummed down' version of the FMC. You can select FSX flight plans to load in to the FMC though, not a feature of real 757s! All of the air con systems are simulated and the hydruallic system is also simulated. When you turn off the hydruallics, the aileroins and elevator droop, another sign of a great simulated product! Nose wheel steering is also simulated, but is controlled by the rudder action, or grabbing the handle in the VC.

Flying this aircraft is a real joy. Its really easy to control in any weather and handles as you would expect it to. Landing the 757-300 is the best bit of the flight in my opinion. I like it as the 753 is so long and it is really easy to land, with a perfect flare! The tilting bogies are also a good feature, making the visuals of the landing even better! Auto landings are also simulated and, if set up correctly, are really fun to try!

The limited virtual galley is good, with moving catering trolleys and moving window blinds. The toilet door also opens, revealling a toilet! All of the interior doors are also clickable. There is also a pop-up panel that has pre recorded captain and flight attendant announcments.
